The first thing you need to know is that getting healthy and shiny hair involves a combination of proper care, nutrition, and lifestyle choices. So even the best and most expensive hair products might not be enough if you have a poor overall health. That would be a total waste of money. We definetely don’t want that! The best products you can find are those that work best for your hair & scalp
IDENTIFY YOUR SCALP TYPE
Just like there are different skin types, there is also different scalp types. Knowing your type can significantly improve your hair health. it’s important to use a shampoo that will be appropriate for your scalp. We specify 4 different scalp types:
- Oily – it gets oily and greasy quickly after washing hair
- Dry – feels flaky, itchy and sometimes even tight
- Sensitive – are very prone irritation and itching, also people with this scalp are often allergic to certain ingredients in shampoos
- Normal – no specific issues
Now when you know your scalp type we jump into how to take a good care of your hair!
HAIR WASHING MISTAKES
Let me introduce you to the most common mistakes while washing your hair, so we can eliminate those bad habits and let your hair feel and look its best!
WASHING HAIR TOO OFTEN OR TOO RARELY
The frequency of washing hair can also help you to archieve your dream hair. Washing hair too often will stip it of natural oils, leading to dryness. On the other hand washing it too rarely can cause hair issues such as buildup of oils and products, dandruff, clogged hair follicles, etc.
Remember! You don’t wash your hair only to wash off excess oil, but also for hygiene. Just like you wash your hands after using the bathroom. You should wash your hair at least every 3 day or more often if needed.
NOT USING CONDITIONER
You should condition your hair after every washing. Even if you leave it for a minute on your hair it’s still better than not conditioning at all! Why? Because:
- Conditioners help replenish moisture lost during washing.
- Make hair smoother and easier to detangle, reducing breakage and making styling more manageable.
- Regular conditioning helps seal the hair cuticle, giving your hair a shinier and healthier appearance.
- Can help reduce frizz by smoothing the hair cuticle, which is particularly beneficial for curly or coarse hair types.
- Helps coat the hair and protect it from environmental stressors, heat styling, and other damage.
- Can enhance hair’s elasticity, making it less prone to breakage and allowing it to withstand styling better.
- Different conditioners target specific hair needs (e.g., hydration, strengthening, color protection), allowing you to tailor your hair care routine to your specific concerns.
Overall, conditioning after washing is a key step in maintaining healthy, manageable hair! I also recommend to deeply nourish your hair. You can do a hair mask or use various oils treatment, anything you like!
OTHER TIPS
- Avoid Hot Water: Rinse with lukewarm or cool water to help seal the hair cuticle, enhance shine and prevent scalp dryness.
- Limit Heat Styling: Reduce the use of hair dryers, straighteners, and curling irons. If you must use heat, apply a heat protectant spray.
- Gentle Drying: Instead of rubbing your hair with a towel, gently blow it dry. Consider using a microfiber towel or an old T-shirt.
- Regular Trims: Trim your hair every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends. Important! There is no such product that will glue your splited ends. So don’t believe everything you see in social media or internet.
- Avoid Tight Hairstyles: Minimize stress on your hair by avoiding tight ponytails or braids.
SCALP CARE
Now when you know how to take care of your hair we can move into your scalp. Which will help you with healthy hair growth, prevent any scalp issues like dandruff, dryness, or scalp irritation, enhanting hair product effectiveness ect.
DO THESE EASY TIPS TO MAINTAIN HEALTHY SCALP
- Choose the Right Shampoo: Use a sulfate-free shampoo to avoid stripping your scalp of natural oils. If you have specific issues (like dandruff), consider a specialized shampoo.
- Wash Frequency: Depending on your hair type and scalp condition, wash your hair at least every 3 days to maintain a healthy balance of oils and keep it clean.
- Scalp Scrubs: Use a gentle scalp scrub ( I recommend using chemical one because mechanical ones migth leave micro wounds on scalp ) to remove buildup from products, oil, and dead skin cells.
- Scalp Oils: Apply natural oils like coconut oil, jojoba oil, or tea tree oil to nourish and hydrate your scalp. Leave it on for a few hours before washing.
- Leave-in Treatments: Use lightweight leave-in conditioners or serums that are formulated for the scalp to maintain moisture.
- Scalp massage: It enhances circulation which boosts blood flow, which can promote healthier hair growth.
- Use Your Fingers: Use your fingertips (not nails) to gently massage in circular motions.
- Limit Styling Products: Try to minimize the use of heavy styling products that can lead to buildup.
- Clarifying Shampoo: Use a clarifying shampoo (about once for 7 – 14 days) to remove residue from products.
By following these tips, you can help ensure that your scalp stays healthy and supports the growth of beautiful hair! After some time you will notice a signaficant difference!
